                             Passions

This I and Lily are in Santa’s workshop. Our products are:Bath bombsLip And body Sugar scrubsOur ideas came from Pinterest and Mr Google himself. My idea of a bath bomb design was a sphere coloured red and white like a candy cane. But the bath bomb moulds needed to be delivered. Then we thought of rectangular bath bombs and it stuck.Lily’s idea of the sugar scrubs was coloured green and red and smelt like candy canes and we also thought of tying candy canes to the jars and that was final.

Book Week

                              Stu Duval

On Tuesday on the 7th of October Stu Duval set up a workshop in the hall at school.Stu Duval set up two workshops one on writing and one on cartoon drawing.I attended the writing and cartoon drawing. At the writing workshop, Stu Duval talked to us about ideas.
"Ideas are like sparrows, they are so common you don't see                                them until you open your eyes."
Stu also talked about character names, character are probably the hardest thing in writing ever for me.So Stu Duval told us to write the first thing at comes to your mind after I said something random. So of the creative names like flower Hanning or Serval purple.

In the cartoon drawing workshop, we drew ugly, evil scientists, cats, sharks, fat dinosaurs using numbers and letters. At the end of the drawing workshop, Stu Duval signed drawing or sketch books, but I got two signatures on my dinosaur drawing and my writing book.

Ice-Cream

                              Ice-cream

One choice, two irrestisble treats.Ice-cream so smooth and taste bud carving.Lollies come in extravaget flavours, colours and sizes. Icecream is essential to one's diet. Lollies are sugary and artifical and full of disgusting secret ingredients. We buy one each an ice cream and lollies.

Even though siblings stick to their choice, it always dosn't happen.

Hands reach out to claw the  precious treats from my clasp.Screaming enamel scraps my nerves.A plover screames over head.It hits. The battle is in full swing.Birds chant.Parents watch silently holding in the giggles.Hands hit again. In a matter of seconds the word turned up side down. The ice cream melted onto the abuent grass.Cries erupted from the heap on top of me.The fight was over.We both lost

camp

Camp!Horse riding rotation 1/11/17
Nervously standing on the vermilion mounting block, the dark chestnut gelding stood still waiting to bear the weight about to be plunged on his back. Everything was ant-sized, the sun made everything unbearable to touch.

The moment the lead rope sagged to the ground, Boston trotted off, oblivious the sharp tugs the rider gave him.Trotting off with no care in the world, he followed the scent of sweet hay all the way to the bucket. But somthing unexepted happened, Boston lunged forward to the bucket.Terrifed the great beast will would buck me off, I restrained him with a amighty tug and kick and we set off to the arena.

The arena is a huge building with rough bark littering the floor. bright blue barrels stood dutifully at each corner.Boston took each corner with delight and achievement.

Maori myth and legend

                       How Maui Slows The Sun😀😀

By, Lexi, Shantelle and Dareeya.

Over the last two weeks, my group were focusing on the myth: How Maui Slows The Sun.                                                     How Maui Slows Sun Video!

I hope you like the video!!!!!!!!

Script
Shantelle:When Maui was a little boy.

Lexi:Te Ra used to sprint across the blue sky so fast
that there was no time to do any work before dark.

Shantelle: One day,Maui’s mother, Taranga, asked him if he could slow the sun down and make days last longer.

Lexi: After thinking for weeks on end, Maui decided on a clever plan.

Shantelle: Maui set all the women in village to weave some long ropes of flax called harakeke.

Lexi: Next he and his brothers took the harakeke to the edge of the world, where Te-Ra went to sleep each night to  sleep.
Shantelle:Maui and his brothers used the harakeke to make a snare to trap Te-Ra.

Lexi: When Te-Ra leaped from his sleeping place and shone brightly,

Shantelle:But maui and his brothers were ready for him

Lexi: Maui shouted the signal and his brothers pulled hard and Te -Ra’s head got tangled in the ropes.

Shantelle: Te-Ra pleaded with mercy to Maui, but Maui took no notice of cries and whipped out his magic fishhook and hit Maui on the head.

Lexi:Te-ra screamed in pain as Maui hit him again and again mercilessly.

Shantelle: And when Maui stopped hitting Te-Ra, Maui told Te-Ra to travel more slowly across the sky so Maui and the villagers can finish their work before dark.

Lexi: Te-Ra seemed surprised to hear that he was traveling too fast, but still Te-Ra kept his side of the promise and Maui hit Te-Ra on the head again to keep his promise and Maui and his brothers let go of the harakeke.

Shantelle: Te-Ra slowly but surely he rose into the sky.Te-Ra has kept his promise by traveling slowly ever since, sharing his heat and light for many hours each day before he sinks down below the edge of the world to rest.

Lexi: So next time you're enjoying yourself in the sunshine, remember to thank Maui for making our days longer and warmer.

Weekly Reflection with Mrs Florence 3.9

Calendar art! This week with Mrs Florence, we started calendar art.The artist we were looking into was, Wassily Kandinsky.Kandinsky invented the art called abstract art.Abstract art is art with shapes, lines and paint spatter on a canvas or piece of paper. Our theme for the abstract art is a budding tree. The background colours on my calendar art are the cold colour dye. After the dye has finished drying, I started drawing the tree that is blooming overnight. After drawing my final tree design, I start copying the tree design onto my final copy. When I finished copying my swirls onto my dyed paper, I started in my circles that are my flowers or buds. The flowers are made out of circles of vibrant colours.

Choices for Life Production, 2017

After the last performance, joy filled my stomach. The production was finished. Sadness piled on my happy and amusing moments in the production, as I take my costume off, this is the last time I will wear this costume the way it is with feathers tickling my nose and vibrant blues bouncing off the spotlight at night. But on the bright side, I don't have to enter a really stuffed bathroom with girls trying to take their costumes off. The heat in the bathroom... there is no room to put my costume, so girls trample my precious wings that looked amazing.

The Beach

                                                                      The Beach
Excited giggling, waves of laughter coming from the beach hut.Everyone was in a peaceful mode, no swearing, no fighting, just peaceful. But I thought to myself how long will this last? Maybe an hour or something, but anyway it was my first time out of the stuffy van with suitcases piled nearly on top of me and my dearest cousin Liza. With lots of suitcases, we came tumbling down headfirst into the silky sand. Shaking off the pearl white sand, embarrassed I walk off to the restroom and change into my waterproof lace bikini once I was finished we blundered out of the restroom.Gazing in awe and amazement at the undisturbed water, washed and glazed in the sunshine. It blew me away.

Enchanted by the pristine perfect fish. I noticed each that each fish that its own unique patterns like zebras in Africa.Cupping my hands into a bowl shape, I dip my hands into the cool, clear water. We tried and tried again to catch the fish but it didn't work. But in the end, we gave up and decided to bathe in the refreshing water , all the fish away

Science How to protect plants from bugs

                                                     The Science

Our question was…
What is the best remedy for protecting plants from slugs, snails etc
At the Hamilton Gardens, we learnt that there are good insects as well as bad.
Our remedies were: Saucer of milk next to the plant, crushed eggshells on the soil, ripped orange peels on the soil.
It showed that all the remedies worked equally the same, with zero slugs and snails etc.
the science behind the first remedy is that they are drawn to the milk because they’re curious, and then they drown in the milk.
The eggshells are so sharp that when snails walk over the eggshells they get cut and stabbed to death.
the science behind the last remedy is that the citric acid in the oranges burns the skin of the snail, slugs etc.

Gymfest

                                        Gymfest

Heart pumping, cold sweating dripping down my wrinkled forehead. I jump, I could only hear my heart drumming in my abnormally large ears. Relief gripped me with anticipation and thrill. Finally, the thrill managed to wear off before I went to the beam. The height of the beam terrified me but luckily a giant electric blue bean bag. My turn was before Amelia but after Addison. I nearly forgot my moves, but I remembered them in time.

Hamilton Gardens

Hamilton Gardens

''Wow!'' I breathed taking in the spectacular garden. The Italian Resistance garden has so many water features and a balcony overlooking the wonderful Waikato river. The colourful flowers intrigued me into finding out on what they are, because of their beauty. On the right side of the garden, there was a marble balcony carved with grape vines entwined together with the marble pillars and two marble picnic tables sat just below the sill with hedges overhanging the garden. In the centre was a huge fountain with four lions pointing north, south, west, and east. When you walk down the stairs you see an enormous water feature like a waterfall and lions sprouting small trickle of water out of their mouths.

My Speech

                                       My Speech

My speech was on the subject is on protecting native birds of New Zealand. I really enjoyed in researching native birds and how some of the species went extinct hundreds of years ago like the Moa and Huia.

Speech!                                                              Stepping daintily on the cool grass streaked with moonlight. You hear the trees swaying but something is missing. What is it?  The native birds, as you strain to hear the hoot of a morepork, the tapping of feet in the undergrowth, But you hear nothing. But no songs are heard.

This is what will happen if we don’t protect our native birds.I think should be protecting these unique birds because they are so important that they are on our money! As a nation, we call ourselves kiwis right? What will we call ourselves if the real cute kiwi was extinct?

More birds are going extinct than being helped. To be exact,49 species of native birds are extinct since human set foot on New Zealand. 23 species are Nationally Critical,14 are Nationally Endangered and 33 species are Nationally Vulnerable. So that equals 70 species are threatened.

When people arrived in New Zealand they brought rats, ferrets and weasels only to name a few. When Europeans came on ships the rats brought diseases with them inside crates of food they were hiding in. When the rats got off the boats, the native species were unprepared for the four-legged creatures that landed on our shores some 700 years ago. When rats had seen how much food was around, they breed faster and wreaked havoc everywhere they went.

People say saving native birds like the kakapo and kokako is not New Zealand’s top priority but the housing crisis in Auckland and Hamilton. But really do people think that building houses is more important than saving birds of New Zealand that are found nowhere else in the world?

We should be doing more to protecting these native birds because they are unique, their melodies fill the air and they are a major part of the ecosystem in New Zealand wildlife. Now would you start protecting these helpless, dying birds of New Zealand?

the dissection

The Dissection!!!             Ripping the tough muscle from the huge clump of fat, I hear a startled gasp from not so blood and guts from Libby. I put point the scalpel down hard on the cattle’s heart.A wow came Jessada and Lexi as we found the tissue that held everything together. Everyone wanted to cut a string of tissue (well except Libby).

I cut one of the main tissues so did Lexi and Jessada and then we pulled that the not so main tissue strings. After playing with the strings, I cut on the left side of the heart. Then a screeching noise comes from the middle of the heart, horrified I stop cutting there before I was a bone …
A bone the of the scalpel itself! I showed everyone in the group and Libby cringed. Then we all tried to get the bone out but couldn’t. So we dissected another part of the heart, and we found more tissue strings and cut them up.

Then I picked up the dissected heart and held in the air. Then I put my hand in the atrium and squeezed the bottom ventricle. Then Lexi cut a bit off the left ventricle and we all had a turn to squeeze the tough muscle in our hands. After we dissected, a cattle's heart we hobbled over to the ultrasound where Aidan's dad tried it then Aidan himself then Flynn and it was lunch time and we packed up the room put everything in the truck.

Treaty of Waitangi

I liked learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and the history around Pirongia. And I liked sharing my information with Libby and Lexi who in my group. We 6 weeks of planning and creating a slide that had information we gathered when we when to the Pirongia museum and barracks near the cafe.

And is the slide that me, Libby and Lexi made hope you enjoy!

biking at the MBT trails in pirongia

                                       Biking!🚲

The hot blood rushes through my veins. My heartbeat quickens as the earth drops way to another hill. I felt special as I reach the end. I had accomplished one round of the kid's track I had a rest, a drink of water and some food, and started off again.

The grey gravel crunched underneath my black shoes and the stones protested, but I ignored the protesting and biked my way to Amanda. Gracefully, I pass beautiful native trees and flowers. Once I reach Amanda, I stare into the deep, dark, muddy track. Gingerly, I make way and push off. I race down the muddy banks like a racehorse in a derby. Slowly, I apply the brakes to examine the track below. The hill below dropped down to a stream sharp corner. I carefully turned the corner, avoiding the bird's sharp cries and taunting beaks. But I wasn’t watching the sight was better than those crows. Then I bike a little longer, and I found a sign that says:

Redwood's kids ahead?

My despair filled my stomach as I bike up the brown leaves trail. I keep biking and I reached the end!

bike reflection 2017 by dareeya

                                              Blue Reflection

                               lesson 1😁

we had our first bike lesson.

On Wednesday we had our first lesson with Claire from the Energize team.First Claire told us to check our wheels if they have air in them, then we check our brakes if they were tight, and finally, we checked our chains if they were stiff or rusty.Once we finished checking our bikes, Claire said to separate into three groups. We had to bike for a little while and gently break in the box. After we had three turns at breaking, we played the BOX GAME.So the year 5's when first in the box. The year 6's were judges.when we were all set, Claire shouted ''GO!" and we all started and we rode anti-clockwise round.I put my foot down so I didn't win. At least I still tried.

                       Bike Reflection
                             lesson 2😁
We are back with Claire biking lesson. We made sure our wheels had air in them, the brakes if they are broken, and lastly the if they are stiff.Once finished, the year 6's to bike the BOX GAME, they biked anti-clockwise too.Once finished, we separated into three groups, tried balancing on your bike but holding it without putting your foot down. When we had three turns, we played the turtle game.(the aim of the game was to ride as slow as you can without putting your foot down.)

                                     Bike Reflection                                                          lesson 3😁

We're back with Claire, we played 2 rounds of the turtle game. I didn't win a round but that's life. Then we separated into 6 groups, 2 groups on one set of cones. The front people bike up or down the side of cones the bike that is going up,h as a cone in their hand and passes it to the opposite side while biking without  throwing.I nailed it because I always ride one-handed while holding something. Our group got 14 passes without dropping the cone. When time was up we said thank you to Claire and we packed our bikes away.

Plush animals

Plush animals.

Image result for shank steak cartoonThe hot summer’s sun sears my bed like a shank of beef. Even though the curtains are closed, the sun was in full swing. At night when the moon is clear, the light burns your body like a white laser. At night is really cold like you are in a snow capsular. When you stand in the sun, the light penetrates you into the air.Lovingly, I hug my extraordinary purple unicorn. The plush fiberglass silk mane softens the hard, lumpy mattress. Cuddling my zoo of plush animals is an

amazing feeling. Weaving and tugging, gently with the silk I plait the unicorns and horses mane and tail.Pulling at the giant ropes of leather, the horses disobey the tugging and refuse to walk. Gazing and gaping at the long necks, the giraffes tower over me calmly.

The sea by dareeya -writing 2017

The Sea
Related imageRoughly pushing, the golden sand screams helplessly as the water shoves carelessly to the scoring sand. The foam soothes calmly as the shells happily greet them. Waving a goodbye, the shells turn and scatter away as the sea collects their friends up gently. Gobbling the unfortunate, the seagulls spring into action, picking greedily at the pipi's shells. Helplessly demanding, the soft muscles babbles their justice and freedom from the bright brittle bills.

Flicking her tail skillfully, the grey shark kicked a drop of water off her tail like she was playing soccer. Jumping for joy, dad manoeuvred the boat to the spot where the shark took the spotlight. Lazily, I took a worn cushion and strained my eyes to see the silver shark almost tipped the boat upside down. Then…POP the magnificent shark landed in the gleaming white boat.Hurriedly, I grab the slippery, slimy fish with delight, and examined the unique features of the miniature shark.

green poem by dareeya

Green
Green is the seasickness on a boat.
It is the jealously for something from a girl.
It is the sick wave of fear that comes by you when something bad going to happen.
It is the disgust of something you don’t like.

Image result for mouldy cheeseGreen is the mouldy cheese at the back of the fridge.
It is the nut inside a young pistachio shell.
It is the crisp apple on the evergreen tree.
It is a packet of sour skittles at the supermarket.

Green is the leaf on a tree.
It is the crunchy grass beneath your feet.
It is the colour of Tui house.
It is a uncleaned fish tank.
It is the algae in an unfiltered pool.

Green is nature and life.
